One of the greatest and most beautiful actresses to have ever graced the screen of cinema passed away fifty years ago today. Her name was Vivien Leigh and to me she will always reserve a special place in my Old Hollywood loving heart. She starred in a movie that still so remains my favorite, Gone With the Wind.
But, she is not only known for that! She starred in numerous other films! She was Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire, a film showing an example of mental illness. She also starred in numerous lovely films with her longtime husband, Laurence Olivier.
Vivien died from a bout of tuberculosis in 1967, at about the age of 53. For years she had been struggling with the terrors of bipolar disorder. But her talent never did leave her! Let us remember Vivien Leigh.
